Forsyth Te Ayuda announces Latin Festival 2025

Preparations are underway for the first Latin Festival hosted by Forsyth Te Ayuda and United Way of Forsyth County (Georgia).

"Forsyth Te Ayuda is an initiative that began last year as an effort to serve the Latin communities in Forsyth County," explained Ozzie Rodriguez, United Way Board of Directors member and chairperson of the initiative. "Our mission is to support and educate the Hispanic community by increasing accessibility to resources and programs in Forsyth County."

According to population estimates, as of July 2022, the Hispanic population represents 10% of Forsyth County residents.

Forsyth Te Ayuda looks to forge partnerships, provide personalized assistance, be a source of information, and promote community engagement and collaboration among the businesses and organizations that serve the Latin community. "We wish to organize workshops, seminars, and events to educate and empower the Hispanic community in Forsyth County in order to provide those seeking support the help they need while assisting all to improve their quality of life," Rodriguez said.

The festival takes place on August 2nd at Cumming City Center, from 12 to 5 pm and will feature live music, kids’ activities, and cultural exhibits. Event planners hope to showcase numerous organizations in Forsyth County that focus on providing education and assistance to Hispanics in our community. The event is free of charge. Free backpacks and school supplies will be given to kids in attendance (while supplies last).

Four Scythes Haunted Attraction, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) haunted house built and operated by volunteers, invites community members to get involved behind the scenes this fall in support of area charities.

Four Scythes Haunt will be hosting a New Volunteer Casting Call from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at the Cumming Fairgrounds Arena (235 Castleberry Road, Cumming), where community members can learn about the different volunteer opportunities available with the haunt and find more information about the organization.

Volunteer roles available include:

Performance and acting: Engage visitors as scare actors, character performers and interactive guides.
Set and scenic design: Use tools, paint, etc. to build immersive scenes and environments.
Props: Construct atmospheric props.
Tech: Manage lighting, sound and FX.
Costume and makeup: Create SFX makeup, paint faces and design costumes that bring characters to life.
Guest services: Assist with ticketing, crowd flow, customer relations and line management.
Security and safety: Support patrol, oversee cameras and perform fire-watch and crowd control duties.
Set-up and teardown: Help build the haunt before season and dismantle it afterwards.

Volunteers must be 16 years or older, and minors need parental consent. Volunteering will require energy, reliability and team spirit to create memorable experiences for guests.
